IN MEMORIAM

Rose Island Playhouse Board of Directors

Just a few weeks earlier, we also lost two other friends of Rose Island, Kathleen Hensley and Bob McCutcheon, each of whom appeared on stage several times with us. Bob also directed two shows for our little company. We were grateful for the time we shared with all four of our theatre friends, and we pray for their families as they mourn their loss.

Rose Island Playhouse & Company, Inc.

Rose Island Playhouse wishes to honor the passing of our dear friend Fred Krenke, who served faithfully for several years as our treasurer. Fred was an eye-catching and talented actor in many productions throughout the past decade, especially enjoying finding ways to make his costume and performance memorable. Fred brought a mischevious sense of humor to rehearsals, occasionally indulging in harmless pranks on the other actors. He also spent many hours on Rose Island's business concerns. Fred passed away on February 15. We send our condolences to his family and friends as they grieve his passing. We will miss him.

We also wish to honor our dear friend Lynn Moore Smith, who passed away February 22 after a long illness. Lynn brought her considerable talents to the stage in some of our best comedies, and she always radiated her gentleness and good humor on or off the stage. Those of us who had the good fortune to work with Lynn often found that her professionalism brought out the best in our own performances. We at Rose Island will miss her and send our prayers to her family and friends in this difficult time. We will miss her as well.

Rose Island Playhouse & Company, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to educate, enrich, entertain, and provide our community with a well-rounded family-oriented experience in a theatrical venue.  Our long-range goal is to build a facility in Charlestown, Indiana, which helps support this mission and which will be available for community use. Our current home is the Charlestown Arts & Enrichment Center, 999 Water Street, Charlestown, Indiana

Each year, the Rose Island Playhouse Board of Directors awards a scholarship to a local high school student who is active in the performing arts.  Scholarships are based on the student's essay, academic record and recommendations.  Scholarship applications can be obtained from any board member or downloaded on the scholarship page. (Note that scholarships were halted temporarily due to the pandemic. Watch for them to resume in 2024.)

Rose Island Playhouse is a labor of love!  Actors, directors, board members, set builders, prop and sound assistants, are all working unpaid because they truly want to bring quality theater to the Charlestown community.

But it still takes money to put on a show.  Performance rights, costumes, sets and props all take money to produce a high-quality, entertaining production.  Your donations and ticket purchases help us to keep bringing family-friendly theater for the viewing pleasure of Charlestown and the surrounding area.  Please contact us or call 812-289-1329 to become a donor or member of
