Do you like "improv?" Do you want to watch talented actors make up funny stuff on the spur of the moment? Or would you like to participate as an improviser?


Rose Island Playhouse is sponsoring a FREE night of Improv at the Charlestown Arts & Enrichment Center on WEDNESDAY, June 26th! Doors open at 7:00, and the fun will start at 7:30. The show will be over by 9:30. Director Chris Meier is preparing a fun slate of new and classic improv games that will challenge participants' imaginations and make for an entertaining evening for the audience.

2024 FALL PLAY AUDITIONS


Rose Island Playhouse will hold auditions for John Anthony’s hilarious comedy Sandbag, Stage Left on Saturday, August 3rd from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Charlestown Public Library, 51 Clark Road and on Monday, August 5th from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Arts & Enrichment Center, 999 Water Street in Charlestown, Indiana.

Synopsis: In this outrageous comedy Arnold Meddle is on trial for killing his wife, Amelia, by squashing her on stage with a sandbag during her solo rendition of “So Long, Dearie”.  It’s mud-slinging galore between Defense attorney Static and Prosecutor Cling as they try to prove their cases. Arnold contends he is innocent despite the testimony of several zany witnesses. It is the case of the century, (or a least last week), under the steady gavel of no nonsense Judge Been.

Cast:  4 men-  Arnold Meddle, 40’s-50’s, husband of the deceased; Salvatore Soo, 40’s-50’s, medical examiner; Gus Swenson, the loveable doorman; Bryon Shelley, mid 50’s, blustery blowhard.  7 women- Gretel Van Cistern, 40’s-50’s, very unfeminine; Ginger Rayle, 20’s-30’s, cute and girly; Mrs. Bryon Shelley, 40’s- 50’s, dowager; Edwena “Chuck” Berry,50’s, childhood friend of Arnold; Penelope Pacemaker, an extravagant theatre director; Harriet Meddle, mother of Arnold; Dora Glockamorra, a looker.  5 nongender specific- Bailiff; Judge Been; Cling, prosecuting attorney, Static, defense attorney; Prison Guard.

The play will be directed by Julie Hartzell and Rhoda Meier.  The performance dates are September 27th , 28th, 29th and October 4th, 5th, and 6th.  Rehearsals will be on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6:30-9:30 starting on August 12th. This is not only an excellent play for seasoned actors but also has some parts for those who have had the “acting bug” but were a little afraid to spread their wings. Whether you are a veteran actor or a newbie, come and audition for this fabulous play!
